With everything that's happening with the COVID-19 virus, we want you to know that keeping all of you, your kids, and our employees safe and healthy is our top priority.

We are closely monitoring the Government of Alberta website as well as Alberta Health Services for any changes in this and ensuring that we do what we can to help prevent the spread of the virus.

As most of you have probably heard, public schools in Alberta will be closed effective Monday, March 16, which means that all private lessons and rock bands at Backbeat are transitioning to the online space effective immediately. Ready or not, here we go!

We will be using Skype for all online lessons, which can be downloaded for free on a PC or Mac. It is easy to download (takes about 1 minute) and it takes 2 minutes to set-up your account.

Once you have your Skype account set up, we would ask that you please send us your Skype Name (details on how to find it are below) in advance of your lesson (the earlier the better). Then all you need to do is log in to your Skype account about 2 minutes before your regularly scheduled lesson and wait for your teacher to call you.

If your child is under the age of nine, we would ask that parents be available to accompany them and offer support during the Skype lesson (at least for the first couple of lessons) to help troubleshoot any issues that might come up.

For rock bands students, we will connect with you individually to schedule a time for a private lesson with your rock band leader that will focus on your rock band material and allow your band to hit the ground running once we are back together. Please email us at at your earliest convenience if you have a preferred time for your private lesson with your rock band leader.

Community has always been a huge part of Backbeat and, even though we can't be physically together during this time, we will continue to look for ways that we can connect in the weeks to come.

We'll see you soon in the online world!
