Our Philosophy

At Backbeat, we believe in the potential of each and every student. We believe that kids need and desire positive role models, loads of encouragement, and meaningful affirmation. We believe that kids can grow in self-confidence through acquiring a skill that they are proud of, such as playing guitar, singing, playing drums, etc. They can learn to believe in themselves through successful performance experiences. They can develop humility and teamwork and trust by playing with other kids, through shared musical experiences. They can learn how to become leaders and how to help others, and how to accept constructive criticism. We believe kids need a place to belong – for some, it’s their basketball team, or their hockey team, or the chess club – but for many students (and adults) that place is lacking. That’s where we come in. Backbeat gives those who love music a place to belong, a place to make friends, a place to grow and learn and take risks, even make mistakes; a place to express themselves and discover who they are. That’s our philosophy. That’s what Backbeat is all about.

Our Mission:

Backbeat seeks to create a culture that develops confidence, encourages teamwork, and fosters leadership, using music that is cool, relevant, challenging, and fun. Our comprehensive rock-based program allows students to learn valuable skills on their instrument through customized private lessons, and apply those skills in guided rock band rehearsals and live performances. Our students are encouraged to express themselves, take risks, and celebrate their achievements.
